The two main teacher federations, Conadu and Conadu Histórica, will join forces in a new national strike to be held this Wednesday, as announced in a press conference. Both federations are calling for a national university strike and plan to hold a federal call with regional actions in the coming weeks that will culminate in a massive demonstration in Buenos Aires.
In this context, the unions denounce that the project led by Javier Milei has no room for a people seeking to avoid suffering, and point to a university that is being reduced and alienated by the ongoing process of commodification. Furthermore, they highlight that during Milei's administration, they have lost 30% of their salary in real terms and are facing a gap of more than 60 points compared to inflation.
The unions also criticize the government for not addressing their demands in the negotiations, claiming that they have continued to harm union institutions and spread false information to confuse public opinion supporting their claims. The university strike this Wednesday will coincide with a national transportation strike, excluding the Motor Vehicle Drivers Union (UTA).
The mobilization of teacher and non-teacher unions, supported by the CTA of Workers and the Autonomous CTA, is framed in the defense of public university against the budgetary and salary cuts promoted by Milei's government. In this context, they are considering carrying out more protest actions in the coming weeks with the aim of raising awareness and mobilizing in defense of higher education in Argentina.
