Milei Promises Audits on National Universities

President Javier Milei announced that he will carry out audits in public national universities, stating that "The crooks will not have peace in Argentina." In radio statements, Milei expressed his determination: "We are going to audit them. The scam is over in Argentina; the classes are over."

The conflict between the University of Buenos Aires and the Government has gone to court, with UBA announcing that it will take the matter to justice, arguing that the government's intention to audit would violate the principle of autonomy of higher education institutions. This morning, the Undersecretary of University Policies, Alejandro Álvarez, stated that universities are "violating" students' rights by refusing to be audited.

Álvarez highlighted that in 2011, SIGEN carried out an audit without identifying significant irregularities and mentioned that there are precedents of audits conducted. He emphasized: "The UBA document is very interesting. The crooks will not have peace in Argentina because whoever does it pays for it."

Additionally, Álvarez added: "I will go after the crooks to the last corner of Argentina and I will put them in jail. In the University of Tucumán, there were serious irregularities with the authorities," referring to statements made in radio interviews.
