The president of the Buenos Aires Notaries College defends strict control mechanisms in the notariat, explaining the reporting procedure for transactions involving politicians and the protection of citizens' assets.

Defense of Notarial Procedures in Argentina

The president of the Buenos Aires City Notaries College, Magdalena Tato, stated that transactions involving politically exposed persons (PEPs) must be mandatorily reported to the Financial Information Unit (UIF), regardless of the amount. She also defended the internal controls of the notarial profession. Tato explained that clients are classified according to money laundering risk levels, and additional documentation is requested when necessary. "If an operation seems suspicious to me, I do not carry it out," she emphasized. If doubts persist after a transaction is completed, the notary is obligated to file a Suspicious Operation Report (ROS). Tato also discussed the protection of housing (formerly 'family asset') as a tool to preserve patrimony, which has now been extended to single individuals. She rejected the idea that the notarial profession is hereditary and highlighted the rigorous admission and continuous training system.
