Hours ago, President Donald Trump stated that, on Tuesday night, “an entire civilization will die to never return again,” in reference to the ultimatum he gave to the Iranian regime to end the war. Possibly, the president's threat of “total destruction” may refer to a probable attack on Iran's infrastructure, such as power plants and bridges, or even a large-scale military bombing. In the same vein, Trump seeks a “total regime change” in Iran because for “47 years” the Islamic government has lived in a context of “extortion, corruption, and death,” and it must come to an end. This situation was aggravated by the tension regarding the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for world oil that caused market crises.
