Argentina's Chamber of Deputies President makes imprecise remarks on Falklands War

Buenos Aires, April 2 (NA) – The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, made an imprecise statement regarding the armed conflict in the Falkland Islands, on the 44th anniversary of the start of the war. “We are here to commemorate the landing there in the eighties,” he stated. The libertarian official was unable to provide the exact year of the invasion carried out by the United Kingdom on Argentine territory when questioned by the press during a government event. “We are commemorating the fallen in the Falklands, which was the day of the landing there in the eighties… so we will always be here and we will maintain the claim over the islands as the President has done since the day he took office,” Menem said. At the event held at Plaza San Martín in the Retiro neighborhood of the capital, the ministers Manuel Adorni (Cabinet), Luis Caputo (Economy), Pablo Quirno (Foreign Affairs and Worship), Diego Santilli (Interior), Alejandra Monteoliva (Security), Federico Sturzenegger (Deregulation), Mario Lugones (Health), and Juan Bautista Mahiques (Justice) were also present.
