The Judiciary confirmed on Wednesday the decision of Judge Diego Amarante to prevent the president of the AFA, Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia, and his treasurer, Pablo Toviggino, from leaving the country due to the case in which they were recently prosecuted for the improper retention of contributions and taxes. The Federal Appeals Court of the Economic Criminal Jurisdiction, through Judges Roberto Hornos and Carolina Robiglio, considered the ban "reasonable" to guarantee their availability for judicial requests within the investigation, confirmed the Noticias Argentinas Agency. "The appealed decision, regarding the situation of Claudio Fabián Tapia and Pablo Ariel Toviggino, is currently in accordance with the law and the circumstances of the case, so it must be confirmed," the magistrates stated. The appellate judges added that the exit ban is not absolute, but rather aims for the accused to require specific authorizations from the court.
Justice Bars Tapia from Leaving Country
An Argentine appeals court upheld a ruling banning AFA president Claudio Tapia and his treasurer from leaving the country over a tax evasion case. The ban is seen as a reasonable measure to ensure their cooperation with the investigation.
