The national government has declared the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a terrorist organization and ordered its inclusion in the Public Registry of Individuals and Entities Linked to Acts of Terrorism and its Financing (RePET). The measure was announced by the Office of the President, which stated that the decision is based on judicial investigations and intelligence work linking the IRGC to the attacks perpetrated in Argentina in the 1990s. It was indicated that on March 17, 1992, a car bomb attack destroyed the Embassy of the State of Israel in Buenos Aires, leaving 29 dead and over 200 injured, while on July 18, 1994, another attack demolished the AMIA headquarters, causing 85 fatalities and more than 300 injured. According to the official communiqué, both attacks were planned, financed, and executed with the direct participation of high-ranking officials of the Iranian regime and operatives of the Revolutionary Guard, through the Hezbollah organization. It was also indicated that the Argentine Justice system has issued Red Notices via Interpol against Iranian citizens, including former Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi, currently head of the IRGC. The decision was adopted in coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Security, the Ministry of Justice, and the State Intelligence Secretariat, based on official reports that accredit transnational illicit activities, including acts of terrorism on Argentine territory, as reported by the Noticias Argentinas news agency. Inclusion in the RePET enables the application of financial sanctions and operational restrictions aimed at limiting the organization's capacity for action in the country and protecting the financial system from being used for illicit purposes. President Javier Milei stated that the measure seeks to settle a historical debt of over 30 years with the victims and reaffirmed the Government's commitment to the fight against terrorism and organized crime, while also positioning Argentina's alignment with Western civilization against those who seek to destroy it.
