Buenos Aires, March 31 (NA) – A gang of Gypsy scammers was dismantled by the Police of the City in a series of 26 raids carried out in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Campana, Mar del Plata, and Rosario. According to the Argentine News Agency, 14 people were detained in these raids and 42 vehicles, auto parts, jewelry, phones, and questionable documentation were seized. The organization is accused of vehicle scams, virtual kidnappings, and extortions through the 'uncle's story', all linked crimes that ended with cars being dismantled in junkyards. With the money accumulated from the various scams, the gang members used dealerships to channel and invest the money. After two months of investigations, officers drew up a list of 26 addresses, 17 of them in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, one in Marcos Paz, one in El Palomar, one in Don Torcuato, three in Campana, two in Mar del Plata, and one in Rosario. When searching their homes, investigators seized about thirty false vehicle sale certificates. With this information, the officers managed to determine that the criminals agreed to buy cars through social networks without asking for all the documentation, set a price, and paid a portion of the value. After that, they kept the vehicle without paying the rest of the money. Those cars were used for other scams and virtual kidnappings. With the money obtained from the scams, the perpetrators acquired vehicles, luxury handbags, and jewelry. The case began with the arrest of a scammer who carried out an 'uncle's story'.
