National Deputy Máximo Kirchner presented a bill in the Chamber of Deputies on Friday aimed at reaffirming that the 2012 expropriation of YPF constituted the 'recovery of the hydrocarbon sovereignty of the Argentine Republic'. The parliamentary initiative sought to express satisfaction with the recent ruling by the New York Court of Appeals, which overturned the lower court's decision and validated the Argentine state's position. In his reasoning, the lawmaker stated that the judicial ruling represented the definitive victory of national legality over financial speculation, ensuring that the decision 'put a stop to a financial extortion that sought to mortgage the future of future generations of Argentines for an amount exceeding 16.1 billion dollars'. Among the arguments presented in the document, to which the Noticias Argentinas agency had access, Kirchner detailed that the Argentine defense managed to demonstrate that the statute of a private company could not prevail over the National Constitution or the country's legal system. The deputy noted that the ruling recognized that the sovereign acts of a state, carried out through congressional laws, could not be degraded by foreign courts. In this regard, he emphasized: 'The ruling is the triumph of legal reason over the financial speculation of Burford Capital'.
