Argentine Judge Blocks AFA President from Leaving Country

Buenos Aires, March 25 (NA) – Economic Crimes Court Judge Diego Amarante denied on Wednesday a request from the president of the AFA, Claudio 'Chiqui' Tapia, to leave the country. This decision is part of a case against the football association for the improper retention of contributions. The executive had asked the justice system for permission to be absent from the country for a period of 60 days, when there are 78 days left until the start of the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In the resolution, seen by the Argentine News Agency, the magistrate stated that 'the imprecision of the reasons alleged, added to the lack of up-to-date documentation and the behavioral precedents cited, prevent the necessary proportionality analysis from being carried out to flexibilize the current measure.' 'This does not contradict that this court has granted authorizations of greater duration in other files, since said power is subject to a comprehensive and casuistic assessment of each particular case, an aspect that is not verified in the present case with the necessary solidity to access what is requested,' he added.
