A national university strike in Argentina continues until March 30. Despite the public holiday for the Day of Memory, Truth, and Justice, which includes Monday 23 and Tuesday 24, the strike, called by the two majority national federations (Conadu Histórica and Conadu), remains in effect. The main reason for this measure is the demand for salary recomposition, as all unions report a significant 'lag' behind inflation. At the same time, they demand the application of the University Financing Law, passed by Congress last year, which includes a larger budget for the operation of all universities. Teachers at the UBA have also submitted a salary evolution report, highlighting that the real salary is at its 'historic minimum': 35.6% below November 2023 and even 2.7% 'below the worst levels reached in 2004'. Laura Carboni, general secretary of the UBA Teachers' Association (AGD UBA), stated that since November 2023, 'they have lost the equivalent of 11.5 salaries' and explained that 'for every three months worked, only two were paid'. 'We have been protesting for the last two years with isolated and uncoordinated strikes; we need a measure that puts an end to this attack by the Government against the universities,' Carboni concluded.
