Buenos Aires, March 19 (NA) -- Hardline unions, distanced from the CGT leadership, will resume their agenda next week with a meeting to plan the formation of the United Unions Front (Fresu) nationwide. This follows a two-week hiatus during which two of Fresu's top leaders, Abel Furlán and Rodolfo Aguiar, were occupied with internal affairs in their respective unions, the UOM (Metalworkers' Union) and ATE. Furlán was re-elected in recent hours to lead the country's main industrial union amid controversy, as the judiciary had postponed the elections due to opposition complaints, while the leader is being investigated for possible irregularities in a contract between the union and a company. Meanwhile, Aguiar has recently headed various ATE protests after a new wave of downsizing and potential layoffs became known in different state sectors. In this context, Fresu's CGT unions will hold a summit next Friday at 6:30 PM at the Millers' Union. "Next Friday, the 27th, the CGT unions of Fresu will meet at Millers to plan the strategy to federalize the space," a union source told the Argentine News Agency. Fresu is composed of CGT unions critical of the central leadership, such as the UOM, Oilseed Workers, and Pilots, as well as unions from the CTA, including ATE. This group gained prominence with protests and strikes against the labor reform promoted and approved by the government of Javier Milei. "We expect Furlán and Aguiar to rejoin to define what we will do on the 24th (in reference to a possible event commemorating March 24).
