Argentine Deputy Mistakenly Sends Compressed Air Rifle to Congress

Buenos Aires, March 18 (NA) – National deputy from the PRO party, Javier Sánchez Wrbа, was at the center of an unusual incident today after he mistakenly had a compressed air rifle he bought online sent to his congressional office. The situation triggered alarms at the entrance to the annex of the Chamber of Deputies when the package passed through the security scanner. Security personnel noticed the contents of the package and activated the protocol, after which they quickly contacted the deputy to clarify what had happened, according to the Argentine News Agency. Following the incident, which caused a traffic jam at the building's entrance, Sánchez Wrba sent a note to the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, to explain what he considered a 'misunderstanding'. 'Through this letter, I am communicating with you to let you know that I bought a compressed air (sic) for over-the-counter sale and recreational use on MercadoLibre, which was mistakenly sent to my office and not to my home address,' he detailed. 'In order to make it clear that it was a compressed air rifle and not a firearm, I am sending you this note along with the purchase invoice for it,' added the PRO legislator. Socialist deputy Esteban Paulón commented on the episode with irony: 'Another day of traffic jams in Congress. It seems a deputy bought a shotgun on MELI and asked to have it sent to their office…'.
