Chilean Fugitive Detained in Argentina

A Chilean criminal, wanted in his home country for attempted homicide, has been detained in Argentina. He had been in custody in the Federal Capital since October 2025 under a different name and with a false Peruvian nationality. As a result, the Chilean justice system has initiated the extradition process. José Santos Torres Montecinos, alias "El Chico Perry", had been imprisoned in Chile for the crimes of robbery with violence, illegal possession of a firearm, and frustrated homicide. He was sentenced in April 2023, with the term to be served until 2037. Nevertheless, he escaped from the Colina 1 prison in Chile in October 2024. After his escape, an Interpol orange alert was issued. Chilean authorities made inquiries with the Federal Penitentiary Service to determine if he was in Argentina. Upon receiving the request, the City Police, as part of cooperation with national and international forces, conducted a search of its systems and databases, focusing on foreigners involved in robberies. During this search, a case of "robbery and unlawful deprivation of liberty" was found, in which one of the suspects matched the description of the fugle but was using a different identity and claiming to be Peruvian.
