Buenos Aires, Argentina — A court in San Martín has sentenced a Bolivian man to 6 years in prison for sexual assault and theft. The 26-year-old Bolivian victim reported that she was brought to Argentina in October 2023 under the false promise of a job as a seamstress. She claimed she was held against her will, physically abused, and not paid for her work at a textile workshop in Moreno. On January 20, 2024, after being allowed to send a gift to her daughter in Bolivia, she was accompanied by the workshop owner's nephews. Later, the accused, the owner's brother, arrived and offered her a place to stay. It was there that he assaulted her and stole $25,000 and her mobile phone. The victim managed to escape and seek help the next day. The court found the man guilty of the assault and theft, but a separate investigation into alleged labor exploitation continues.
