Buenos Aires Implements Digital Attendance System for Teachers

The digital attendance system for teachers has been implemented in all public schools in the City of Buenos Aires, enabling an “agile, transparent, and unified system.” Now, for check-ins and check-outs, teachers will have to use their fingerprint. At the beginning of December 2025, the Buenos Aires City Government officially announced that for the 2026 school year, it is mandatory for all teachers in the City to use a digital system, which represents a more agile and transparent mechanism to record their attendance. To achieve this new update, as confirmed to the Argentine News Agency, teachers had to complete biometric enrollment before December 22 of last year. “The implementation of the fingerprint system is part of our strategic plan that seeks to digitize all school administrative processes so that teaching and learning time increases and the bureaucratic burden generated by paper administration decreases,” stated the Minister of Education of the City, Mercedes Miguel.

The benefits of the measure include: Administrative modernization: the progressive replacement of paper records with a standardized digital system. Traceability and transparency: real-time records that facilitate audits and attendance control. Efficiency in payroll processing: data integrated into the payroll system to apply hires and terminations with greater precision. Technical standardization: only devices and systems certified by the competent Undersecretariat will be used. Contingency protocol: a formal procedure to notify and resolve contingencies, with the possibility of an investigation if intentional damage is detected. Deadline and support for enrollment: self-managed posts and shifts to complete biometric registration before the deadline. If the devices fail, the resolution establishes a protocol through which the authorities of each institution must notify the General Directorate of Planning and Operational Control. This new registration will also impact payroll processing, as guidelines will be incorporated for the calculation of the teacher's salary supplement and the attendance bonus.
