Human Rights Network Defends Repressed for Fighting Labor Reform

The Federal Network for Human Rights and Democracy is defending all individuals detained during peaceful protests against Argentina's regressive labor reform, including those labeled 'terrorists' by authorities.

Human Rights Network Defends Repressed for Fighting Labor Reform

On behalf of the organizations that make up the Federal Network for the Defense of Human Rights and Democracy, we take on the defense of all people who have been reprisaled for fighting against the infamous labor reform. Through comrades from the diverse organizations that are part of the Network, we present ourselves as defenders of the people arbitrarily detained on February 11, 2026, in the Congreso area, who in all cases were released by the CABA's flagrancy prosecutor's office. It is criminal to strip rights from the working people. We have also taken on the defense of Milton Tolomeo, who is accused by the Buenos Aires City Justice as co-author of the crimes of possession of explosive material, public intimidation, and attack on authority, all aggravated, according to the prosecutor's request, by the 'terrorist' condition under article 41 quinquies of the Penal Code. In this latest case, in the early hours of yesterday, the head of the Criminal, Contravention, and Misdemeanor Court No. 6, Dr. Rúa, ruled on Milton's situation, as well as that of Matías Roldán and Néstor Barrera, two people in street situation who had been arrested accused of the same crimes. The judge ordered the immediate release without any charges of Matías Roldán and the release on bail of Néstor Barrera, while in the case of Milton Tolomeo, he heard our arguments and flatly rejected the application of the antiterrorist law, but ordered his preventive detention, as requested by the prosecutor, based on dubious anthropometric identification reports from the Federal Police. At the time of this communiqué, we are working on the appeal of that measure, since the comrade has sufficient roots, lacks a criminal record, and has no possibility of hindering the process. From our position as a space for the defense of human rights and democracy, we demand the freedom of Milton Tolomeo and the closure of the case against all those accused. Fighting against the infamous labor reform is not a crime.
