Court in Kirchner Case to Relocate to New Building in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, February 17 (NA) – The Oral Federal Court 7 (TOF 7), which is judging former President Cristina Kirchner in the 'Notebooks' case, will be relocated to the building at Comodoro Py 2002 as part of the reform plan driven by the Council of the Judiciary to implement the accusatorial system. The headquarters at Comodoro Py 2002 and Immigrants 1950 will deepen their renovations in the coming months for the launch of the new Accusatory Code, scheduled for April 20. The focus will be on the ground floor of the Comodoro Py 2002 building, where the space of the Judicial Office of the Federal Chamber of Cassation will be expanded. This area is responsible for planning and managing the allocation and distribution of cases, centralizing the scheduling and recording of hearings, and performing administrative tasks to alleviate the workload of the courts. Last year, reforms were carried out on the second floor where the Federal Chamber operates, which also has its own judicial office. According to judicial sources cited by the Argentine News Agency, with the relocation of the national courts that operated on the ground floor and are now operating in other facilities, the redistribution of different areas of the Retiro building has been rescheduled for better functionality. Among the novelties is the relocation of TOF 7, which since its inception has been operating in the Palace of Justice and is the only oral federal court not based in the Retiro complex. The court recently highlighted the complications of that distance before the Federal Chamber of Cassation at the start of the 'Notebooks' case, when the physical presence in the oral and public process was debated. What's next The new location will allow TOF 7 to use the so-called AMIA room, intended for large-scale oral trials and modernized and enabled last December, as well as another ten rooms created and conditioned in the last year in the building. In this way, like other federal courts in Buenos Aires, TOF 7 will be able to hold oral debates in the same headquarters where it operates, with quick access to the necessary documentation and simplified mechanisms for the eventual transfer of detainees from the Federal Penitentiary Service located on the ground floor of the building. As detailed, the relocation will be finalized when the infrastructure and system works implemented in different stages are completed and not before mid-year. In parallel, tasks are being intensified in the building on Avenida Immigrants 1950, including the laying of electrical work in a structure of more than 5,000 square meters. The works are part of the General Plan of Works for building improvements and implementation of the Accusatory System, with the objective of preserving the historical heritage, strengthening the judicial infrastructure, and improving the provision of justice services. In 2025, the reform process began in the Comodoro Py 2002 and Immigrants 1950 buildings, in preparation for the implementation of the new Accusatory Code, whose entry into force had been set for November 10 and was rescheduled for April 20.
