Clashes in Buenos Aires as Protesters Target Congress

A series of incidents occurred in Buenos Aires near the National Congress building. Leftist organizations supporting pensioners' demands tore down the security cordon. The protest took place as the Senate was debating labor reform, a project rejected by Peronism and unions like the CGT and the two CTAs. Protesters, using wooden blocks as cover, made Molotov cocktails and confronted police, who responded with a water cannon and rubber bullets. According to police sources, 37 people were arrested and 40 detained during the incidents. All were handed over to the Flagrancy Unit, where prosecutor Malena Mercuriari approved the arrests. Three police officers were injured; one suffered a skull trauma with loss of consciousness and was taken to the Italian Hospital. The other two were injured in their lower limbs by objects thrown by protesters. The officer with the skull trauma was hit by a flowerpot thrown from a building on Solís and Alsina. A video captured the moment a group of protesters assembled and threw a homemade incendiary device at the police cordon. The footage shows several people taking cover behind makeshift structures while preparing the device, which was then lit and thrown toward officers. Police sources indicated that the first security cordon was manned by the Federal Police, while the second and third were handled by the City Police.
