Buenos Aires, Feb 11 (NA) – National deputy for La Libertad Avanza, Silvana Giudici, defended the project that creates a new juvenile criminal regime today and stated that "no governor, no mayor, or anyone in Argentina who has to fight against insecurity and provide public security is going to say that the issue of juvenile crime is not a problem." Speaking as a speaker in the plenary session of commissions where the initiative is being discussed, the lawmaker close to Patricia Bullrich clarified that among those who support the official party's project, "no one is talking about a vengeous punishment or about depriving rights." "On the contrary, this project is adapting the penal parameters to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and also to our legal system," explained the lawmaker close to Patricia Bullrich, according to the Argentine News Agency. The official deputy appealed to regional comparison and highlighted that in Chile, after lowering the age of criminal responsibility to 14, the juvenile recidivism rate dropped by 28% according to official data from the country's statistics institute. She also emphasized that "in Córdoba there are statistics indicating that 55% of adolescents involved in criminal processes are under 16 years old." For Giudici, "it is important to recognize and understand the diagnosis in order to design a public policy." "Clearly, no governor, no mayor, or anyone in Argentina who has to fight against insecurity and provide public security is going to say that the issue of juvenile crime is not a problem," she pointed out. Finally, the representative of La Libertad Avanza clarified that the debate "is not an exclusive" of the official party or its allies, and that it is also not a new debate but has a long history. "The work was multidisciplinary, multi-party, it lasted a year but also 20 years ago this Congress has been working on different occasions on the issue of lowering the age of criminal responsibility," she recalled.
