CGT Condemns Labor Reform, Calls on Senators to Act Responsibly

Argentina's CGT held a march to Congress to protest a government labor reform bill. The union argues the law fails to address workers' issues, worsening their situation and threatening their rights. The CGT is calling on senators to act responsibly during the vote.

CGT Condemns Labor Reform, Calls on Senators to Act Responsibly

Buenos Aires, Feb 11 (NA) — The CGT stated on Wednesday that the march to Congress against the labor reform is "to tell the senators" to "act responsibly," warning that the ruling party's project "does not solve the problems of work, it only aggravates them." "Today is a day where each senator and congresswoman must be clear about their position regarding this initiative that seeks to dismantle labor rights in Argentina and place the worker in a situation of vulnerability and uncertainty," warned the entity on Azopardo Street in a statement released before the march began. The CGT recalled that "each legislator has a commitment not only to the normal functioning of education, health, and justice in their province, but also to each worker, whose future is now in their hands." "This workers' central organization expresses itself in the streets against the proposed labor modernization law promoted by the National Executive Power: without solutions in sight for workers, without an agreement from the sectors involved," the organization complained in the text accessed by the Argentine News Agency. The CGT held that the initiative has "two evident objectives: the degradation of working conditions and the weakening of the union organizations that defend the rights of workers." "Once again, and as many times as necessary, this CGT will fight in the streets, in Congress, or in Justice, in defense of the work and dignity of all the workers of our country," they continued. "And they added that "a reform of this magnitude requires the joint work of all actors to build real solutions to the challenges posed by this stage of our country."
