The president of Nucleoeléctrica Argentina S.A., Demián Reidel, resigned on Monday amid suspicions of alleged corruption linked to overpricing in service contracts for cleaning and technological services within the state-owned company. This resignation took place in an area considered strategic for the country, with a strong energy and technological projection, and resulted in a profound reconfiguration of the board of directors, which will now be in the hands of professionals with scientific and technical training. Official sources confirmed that the departure of Reidel, a physicist and economist of a libertarian profile and close to President Javier Milei, is part of a renewal of authorities process driven by the Government. The now former head of the company had left his role as presidential advisor in July 2025 to join the board of the firm in charge of the operation of Argentina's nuclear power plants. After the shareholders' meeting, the presidency of the board will be assumed by Juan Martín Campos, a biochemist specializing in nuclear safety and reactors, while the vice-presidency will be in the hands of chemical engineer Martín Porro, current head of the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA). The new scheme marks a shift towards technical management in a sector considered highly sensitive due to its impact on the energy matrix and national security. The board will be completed with lawyer Diego Chaher, head of the State-owned Enterprises Transformation Agency; chemical engineer Diego Garde, a specialist in nuclear technology trained at the Balseiro Institute; and Javier Grinspun, appointed by the CNEA. Chaher is pointed out within the Executive as a key figure in the process of reorganization and eventual opening to private capital of state-owned companies, and is part of the environment of presidential advisor Santiago Caputo. The changes were officially made by the Secretary of Nuclear Affairs of the Ministry of Economy, Federico Ramos Napoli, who highlighted that the new board's mandate will be “to sustain the highest safety and operation standards”, advance in the incorporation of private capital and complete the life extension of the Atucha I plant, one of the most relevant projects of the Argentine nuclear system. In his message, Ramos Napoli thanked the outgoing board's management and stressed that the restructuring responds to the transfer of the company's shares from the Energy Secretariat to the Nuclear Affairs Secretariat. Nucleoeléctrica Argentina operates critical facilities for the country's electricity supply, and the appointment of a team mostly made up of scientists and specialists aims to reinforce credibility, transparency, and the long-term projection of the nuclear area, considered a central piece of the national energy development.
