Buenos Aires, Feb. 4 (NA) – Father Francisco 'Paco' Olveira was detained this Wednesday during the usual retirees' march, which takes place weekly in the vicinity of the Congress. As a result, deputies from Union for the Homeland (UxP) came to the scene and requested his release.
Currently, Father Paco is being held in a Federal Police vehicle, allegedly 'for resisting authority,' escorted by UxP deputies Paula Penacca, Jorge Taianna, Teresa García, and Lorena Pokoik, as well as Valdés, who are demanding his release.
In the area, prosecutor Horacio Peix is working, and it is expected that he will annul Olveira's detention based on the videos presented by the legislators and journalists who were at the scene of the incident.
On November 12 of last year, he had already been detained by the Federal Police during another retirees' march and was released the same day, hours later.
'There is a persecution of retirees because they are the tip of the iceberg of a discontent that exists in our homeland, beyond an electoral result,' Father Paco, a member of the group Priests in Action for the Poor, stated later.
Deputy Eduardo Valdés, who was present when the priest was detained, recorded the situation and posted the video on his social networks.
