Interior Minister Diego Santilli met with governors to discuss labor reform and the request to declare a state of emergency due to wildfires. Provinces supporting dialogue negotiated with the minister to back the labor reform that the executive aims to pass during February's extraordinary sessions, amidst numerous provinces' demands to declare a fire emergency. Santilli attended a meeting at the Casa de Salta, bringing together governors Gustavo Sáenz, Osvaldo Jaldo, and Raúl Jalil to define a common stance on labor reform and advance specific requests to the central government. While Santilli lobbies governors for the labor reform, the Glacier Law, the Mercosur agreement, and the Juvenile Penal Law for extraordinary sessions, provincial officials have united in their demand to declare a fire emergency to secure more resources to combat the wildfires ravaging the south of the country. Santilli stated the meeting with dialogue-supporting governors was 'positive' and the national government is aware of the situation in the south and 'present at the fires.' He also noted that 'in the coming hours,' along with the Cabinet and Manuel Adorni, the request for the Fire Emergency Law, sought by the governors, will be resolved. Indeed, the government was considering extending the Fire Emergency Law by decree while studying the inclusion of increased funding requested by the governors. When asked about the labor reform bill, Santilli expressed 'optimism' and believes it will 'surely' be approved. Sáenz, for his part, was pleased with the meeting and highlighted the 'spirit' of the labor reform, stating that 'we must modernize a very old law and update it for our times.' Meanwhile, Santilli will visit Corrientes province tomorrow to meet with Governor Juan Pablo Valdés as part of his round of meetings to garner support for the labor reform. To date, the minister has secured the backing of eight governors: Rogelio Frigerio (Entre Ríos), Alfredo Cornejo (Mendoza), Leandro Zdero (Chaco), Sáenz, Marcelo Orrego (San Juan), Figueroa, Weretilneck, and Torres.
