Retiree's Murder in Buenos Aires Highlights Security Crisis

Urban violence has struck with extreme brutality in the City of Buenos Aires, once again exposing the sustained deterioration of security and the lack of effective response from authorities.

The incident occurred around 5:30 AM on Saturday in a house located on Núñez Street at 4000. In various neighborhoods of the city, assaults on retirees, violent robberies, and homicides are repeating in a context where drug trafficking is gaining ground, the illegal market is expanding, and criminal gangs operate with increasing impunity.

The woman, in a state of shock, managed to free herself from her restraints and call 911. Minutes later, officers from the City Police and SAME personnel arrived, confirming the man's death.

The perpetrators remain at large, and public and private security cameras are being analyzed to try to reconstruct their escape route. The case of Saavedra is not isolated. Neighbors and sources in the case indicated that in addition to the beatings, the man may have been hanged. This reaction triggered an even more ferocious beating. According to the police reconstruction, at least three criminals forced the railings and entered through a window leading to the kitchen.

A 74-year-old retiree was beaten to death during a violent assault on his home in the Saavedra neighborhood, while his 73-year-old wife was tied up and brutally assaulted. Despite official speeches, neighbors report that insecurity is growing daily and that there is no adequate response to the severity of the problem.

As a symbol of the tragedy, the victims' family is also searching for the couple's cat, named Gala, who escaped during the assault.

Once inside, they surprised the couple while they were sleeping, subdued them, tied them up, and began to savagely beat them to demand money and valuables. The victim, identified as Osvaldo, tried to defend his wife and screamed for help. This reaction sparked an even more brutal beating.

"This is shocking," a neighbor recounted. Another resident was even more forceful: "We feel completely unprotected. The police appear after the worst has already happened. The aggression was so severe that it caused his death in his own home. When the retiree was already unconscious, the assailants threw a glass of water in his face and, with a chilling cynicism, told his wife that 'he would wake up in a few minutes.' The woman was given medical assistance and later taken to a relative's home.
