Buenos Aires, January 20 (NA) – Felipe Sosa, a former Argentine Army infantry lieutenant, was detained in Buenos Aires accused of the brutal femicide of Érika Álvarez in Tucumán. He was transferred to that province in a major operation to the Benjamin Paz Penitentiary Complex. The procedure took place this Monday under the supervision of Police Chief Roque Yñigo, who confirmed that Sosa's detention occurred on Saturday, January 17, after extensive work between the Federal and Tucumán Police. After his arrest, the transfer operation to the province where the crime occurred began, which was completed in recent hours. “He has high-performance military training and has a criminal record, including a case of gender-based violence where he had been granted preventive detention. These are factors we considered to organize the operation and carry out the transfer effectively, and to be able to house him at the Benjamin Paz Penitentiary,” Yñigo highlighted. In a statement accessed by the Argentine News Agency, it was announced that Sosa is 50 years old and is from Córdoba province, although he currently resided in the city of Yerba Buena. It was also determined that he was a private security businessman, an Argentine Army infantry lieutenant, and a member of the French Foreign Legion. “At approximately 11:50, the Special Rescue and Operations Corps (CERO) personnel carried out the transfer of the detainee, who will be housed in Unit 6 of the Benjamin Paz Penitentiary Complex, which is specific for people who belonged to police or federal forces and have a direct link to the facts attributed to them,” affirmed the director of the Penitentiary Service, Ramón Quinteros. In turn, the complex's director, Subprefect Raúl Melián, added: “This Monday we received the inmate, who went through the admission process at the complex, his corresponding judicial documentation was reviewed, the pertinent medical controls were done, and he is already in Unit 6 where he will be incorporated and interviewed by the interdisciplinary team.” The Álvarez case, a 25-year-old woman, was found murdered on January 8 in a landfill in the Manantial Sur neighborhood of the Tucumán capital by two women who were performing cleaning tasks and alerted the Police upon discovering a waste bag with a body inside. This is how an investigation began, which advanced 10 days later with the detention of the accused in the Buenos Aires town of Fátima, in the Pilar district. There it was confirmed that he was staying at a brother's house. According to the Tucumán Police in charge of the investigation, the victim and the perpetrator knew each other beforehand, to the point that they had meetings in different places in that province. The preliminary autopsy report confirmed that she died from a severe craniofacial trauma with cervical dislocation, with the cause of death being blunt force blows to the head and face, as well as a lethal injury to the neck vertebrae, which shows the extreme violence of the attack she suffered before her body was discarded.
