DAIA President Calls Nisman's Death Reclassification as Murder a Great Step

Buenos Aires, January 19 (NA) – Mauro Berenstein, president of the Delegation of Argentine Jewish Associations (DAIA), remembered prosecutor Alberto Nisman on the 11th anniversary of his death and stated that it is 'a great step' that the case is now classified as 'murder,' after having been initially labeled a possible suicide. In statements to Radio Rivadavia, he indicated that Argentina currently has the necessary tools to carry out a trial in absentia and emphasized that the prosecutor's death will always be a 'deplorable' event. 'Argentina is now working to seek justice, and the Law on Trial in Absentia will allow us to do so,' he concluded. 'This is the first year that the case has been reclassified as murder, it is a great step,' he said. 'We hope that both the attack on the Israeli Embassy and the AMIA case will not go unpunished. Our commitment is not to be intimidated, because they seek silence, and Prosecutor Nisman paid for it with his life,' Berenstein stated. On the other hand, he indicated that the government of President Javier Milei 'is on the right track' and that DAIA, as an institution representing the Jewish community, 'supports his decision.'
