National deputy and former Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana (Union for the Patria) described the U.S. military intervention in Venezuela as 'a violation of international law and the integrity of States,' and stated that it 'has no justification' beyond 'what each one thinks about (Nicolás) Maduro.' 'Whatever the assessment of a country's government, the United Nations system is based on respecting the sovereignty of States, whether it is an absolute ruler or not,' Taiana stated, according to the Argentine News Agency, in declarations to the RPM program broadcast on Splendid AM 990. The former minister under Cristina Kirchner said that the only exception that allows for military intervention in a country 'is the protection of a population in the case of genocide,' but highlighted that there is a case defined as such by the United Nations in Gaza and it was not handled in the same way. 'Now a genocide is being and continues to be committed in Gaza, and the President of the United States receives the President of Israel (Benjamin Netanyahu) without any problem and they spend New Year's together,' he emphasized. He pointed out that the future of Venezuela is an unknown, because President Donald Trump 'says that they are going to govern or administer or lead, but it is not clear what that means, it is clear that they want access to oil, but from a political point of view, it is not known what will happen.' Additionally, he highlighted the differences that are opening up after the military intervention between the United States and the European Union, because they indicate 'a distancing in approaches that tends to worsen,' and mentioned Trump's claim on Greenland as the most important situation. 'Regarding Greenland, the authorities of the European Union do not know well what to do,' said the deputy and maintained that the U.S. position 'breaks the heart of NATO and in addition the Europeans have the feeling that they are being abandoned in the face of Russia and that this attack on Venezuela gives 'a green light' to Moscow in Ukraine.'
Argentine Deputy Condemned US Military Intervention in Venezuela
Argentine Deputy Jorge Taiana criticized the U.S. military intervention in Venezuela as a violation of international law. He emphasized that genocide prevention is the only valid reason for intervention, contrasting it with the inaction regarding Gaza. He also discussed the growing divergence between the U.S. and the EU over Venezuela and Greenland.
