Buenos Aires, December 30 (NA) – The head of the Union of Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant Workers of the Argentine Republic (UTHGRA), Luis Barrionuevo, will assume a new mandate at the helm of the union until 2029, after winning yesterday with a single list in the entity's internal elections. Barrionuevo, 83, has been the head of UTHGRA since 1985, and his list won without opposition in a day in which, according to the electoral board, some 120,000 workers of a roll of about 350,000 grouped in 49 sections and 9 delegations went to the polls. Barrionuevo headed the Celeste List, which had no competitors, as confirmed by the Argentine News Agency (NA), because the electoral board rejected an opposition group that did not reach the endorsements required by the statutes. The elections in UTHGRA had originally been called for last September, but were suspended by a precautionary measure issued by the Chamber of Appeals of Labor, Room VI. That judicial measure was promoted by opposition sectors linked to leader Dante Camaño, former general secretary of the union's Capital Federal section, and Barrionuevo's former brother-in-law. At the end of December, the same court set aside the opposition's challenges and authorized the holding of the elections. A week ago, another measure from a Córdoba court again prevented the internal election, but with the authorization of Room VI, the union carried them out yesterday. Barrionuevo will assume a new term today at the headquarters at Avenida de Mayo 930, extending his mandate until 2029, which would bring him to 43 years at the head of the union.
