Peronist leader says conditions not in place for Milei's budget veto

Buenos Aires, Dec 19 (NA) – The head of the Peronist bloc in the Chamber of Deputies, Germán Martínez, stated that the conditions are not in place for President Javier Milei to veto the budget and that the ruling coalition is already insulting Interior Minister Diego Santilli "behind his back".

"The government should have the necessary coolness to learn from its mistakes," Martínez said in an interview with the program 'Sin Corbata' on Splendid AM990.

He added: "The conditions are not in place for Milei's presidential veto."

Martínez also commented on the IMF's request for broad political support, which he said is not happening. "For the bloc leader, the ruling coalition 'has to know that society has a short fuse.'"

In another part of the interview, he shared his perception in the days leading up to the budget vote.

"A week before, I told a deputy, 'I notice something weird, they're already badmouthing Santilli behind his back.' There is a political friendliness in gestures that doesn't correspond to what they tell you in private," he recounted.

"The government believed it was in a honeymoon period where they would be allowed to do absolutely anything," Martínez highlighted and emphasized the role of his bloc during the debate on the "law of laws" (the budget).
