CGT Takes Credit for Labor Reform Delays

Buenos Aires, December 18 (NA) – The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) claimed responsibility on Thursday for the delays in the labor reform process, stating that the 'massive mobilizations' across the country 'demonstrated the resounding rejection of this initiative by Argentine workers.' In a statement, the CGT interpreted the postponement of the debate to February 10 as 'an essential first step toward a technically serious and politically responsible discussion of the issue, which will allow the involvement of all key stakeholders, especially employers and workers.' 'The massive and forceful demonstrations held today, called by our union organizations 'In Defense of Work and Dignity,' both in Plaza de Mayo in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and in various cities across the country, have shown the resounding rejection of this initiative by Argentine workers,' highlighted the Board of Directors of the central body. The CGT also valued the postponement as 'a consequence of the promising parliamentary dialogue held with deputies, senators, and governors from different political representations and the commitment shown by our general secretaries in Congress.' Finally, it affirmed that 'we will carry forward this defense in all areas that are necessary: in the streets, in Congress, and in the Justice,' which union sources had defined for the Argentine News Agency (NA) as 'lobbying.'
