Judge Casanello orders new hearings in the Andis case

On Thursday, December 11, Judge Sebastián Casanello ordered a new round of investigative hearings in the Andis case. Among those summoned to testify is former official Ornella Calvete, daughter of Miguel Calvete, who must appear on Friday, December 19. Calvete served as National Director of Regional and Sectoral Development and resigned from her post last November after the scandal reached her father, who is accused of acting as a liaison between Andis, led by Diego Spagnuolo, and pharmacies. According to the schedule of hearings, to which the Argentine News Agency had access, on Thursday, December 18, it will be the turn of Diego Martín D’Giano, who will give his statement at 11 a.m. That same day, at 12 p.m., it will be the turn of Patricia Canavesio. On Friday, December 19, Julio César Viera will present at 11 a.m. and Ornella Calvete at 12 p.m. Case Background The Federal Chamber of Buenos Aires had revoked in early December a resolution by Judge Casanello and ordered him to deepen the expert opinions on the origin and authenticity of the audios that initiated a case for alleged corruption in Andis. In the ruling, signed by the judges Martín Irurzun and Roberto Boico and Eduardo Farah in dissent, and to which the Argentine News Agency had access, it was stated that the circumstances under which the recordings attributed to Spagnuolo were obtained have not yet been proven. The defenses of Spagnuolo and the brothers Jonathan, Emmanuel, and Eduardo Kovalikker had requested the nullity of the audios and all the proceedings, arguing that it was material of uncertain origin, potentially altered and disseminated without consent. They also denounced a violation of the right to privacy and the absence of expert reports that endorse their authenticity. The Chamber considered that Casanello's decision to reject that claim was based on unverified premises. Irurzun and Boico pointed out that the investigation was activated from journalistic publications that reproduce information arising from the same questioned audios and that it is still not clarified if they were edited, manipulated, or generated through artificial intelligence.
