Buenos Aires Renews Its Legislature

The Buenos Aires City Legislature will renew 30 seats. The Peronist coalition will retain its majority, while the libertarian coalition La Libertad Avanza will become the second-largest force. Former ministers and high-ranking officials will enter the legislature.


Buenos Aires Renews Its Legislature

Buenos Aires, December 7 (NA) – The Buenos Aires City Legislature will renew 30 seats and welcome some prominent figures to its chamber: former senators, deputies, and even former heads of state who will debate projects in the district governed by Jorge Macri.

Of the 30 incoming legislators, the block with the most representatives is La Libertad Avanza (LLA), with 11 new deputies, including several former officials from both the government of President Javier Milei and Jorge Macri.

However, starting next Tuesday, December 9, when the preparatory session of the city's parliament begins, Peronism (between Ahora Buenos Aires and Unión por la Patria) will remain the majority force with a total of 21 seats, followed by LLA with 13.

The list of libertarian legislators who will take office includes former Director of the National Bank Solana Pelayo; former head of the Agency for the Administration of State Assets Nicolás Pakjoz; former Undersecretary of Security for the City Government Juan Pablo Arenanza; and former Director of Institutional Relations of the Secretariat of the Presidency Diego Vartabedian.

The LLA list is completed by Marina Kienast; Andrea Freguia; Lucía Montenegro; Leonardo Seifert; Rebeca Fleitas; Juan Fernández; and in place of the current Chief of Cabinet, Manuel Adorni, the real estate services entrepreneur Marcelo Ernst will take his seat.

The Peronist block, represented by Ahora Buenos Aires, will have 8 new members and will be led by former national deputy Leandro Santoro; they will be joined by the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the UBA, Claudia Negri; the Secretary of the Peronist Youth University, Federico Mochi; and the former director of public spaces of the City Ombudsman's Office, Bárbara Rossen.

One of them is a former head of state, and the other two seats will be occupied by former national Senator Guadalupe Tagliaferri and Emmanuel Ferrario, who is renewing his term.

The list is completed by the legislators Mariana González; Noemí Geminiani; Pitu Salvatierra and Francisco Caporiccio.

Maia Daer, Juan Manuel Valdés, Juan Pablo Odezaille, Franco Vitali, and Magdalena Tiesso are the outgoing legislators, and those renewing their seats are Juan Pablo Modarelli and Berenice Montenegro.

PRO's World

For their part, former national deputy Silvia Lospennato and former Minister of Economic Development of Buenos Aires Hernán Lombardi will be the legislators defending the positions of PRO, along with Laura Alonso, Rocío Figueroa and Darío Nieto, who have expressed their public differences with President Javier Milei and LLA.

"Let's Go Back Buenos Aires," the space promoted by former Head of Government Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, will enter with three legislators.

"Public Trust," for its part, maintains the seats of Sebastián Nagata and Graciela Ocaña; the Movement for Integration and Development with Edgardo Alifraco and Sandra Rey; and LLA with Silvia Imas and Pilar Ramírez.

Also continuing until 2027 are the former libertarian Eugenio Casieles with his monoblock, and Pablo Donati representing Republicanos Unidos.

For the Workers' Left Front (FIT), only former national deputy Vanina Biasi, belonging to the fraction of the Workers' Party (PO), enters; similarly, Andrea D'Atri, from the Socialist Workers' Party, continues her seat until 2027.

Who will continue until December 2027?

Within the Peronist bloc, the following legislators will continue: Matías Barroetaveña; María Bielli; Claudio Ferreño; Victoria Freire; Alejandro Grillo; Andrés La Blunda; Matías Lammens; Claudia Neira; Graciana Peñafort; Delfina Velázquez and Franco Vitali.

In the UCR/Evolución bloc, Aldana Crucitta; Francisco Loupias; María Fernanda Mollard; Guillermo Suárez and Manuela Thourte continue; while in Vamos por Más, Juan Facundo Del Gaiso; Patricia Inés Glize; Matías López; Ignacio Parera; Sergio Siciliano and Gimena Villafruela continue their terms.
