Milei signs decree to reform military social welfare

President Javier Milei has signed a decree to reform the Institute of Social Welfare for the Armed Forces and Security (IOSFA), a measure that seeks to decentralize the management of resources and the control of benefits. According to journalist Ignacio Salerno, this reform is seen as one of the first actions of the new Minister of Defense, Carlos Presti, since taking office. The central objective of the Executive is to reverse the centralization of the social work under the national administration. The government's motto is: 'We want to return the management of the social work to the forces.' In Defense, they insist that they seek for each force to control its own budget, agreement, and benefits, without centralizing it in the national administration. Additionally, the teams of the new Minister of Security, Alejandra Monteoliva, are evaluating the contracting of private services to take charge of the social works of the federal forces. According to the Argentine News Agency, the reform of IOSFA is considered one of the initial measures to rectify 'decades of neglect' and revalue the autonomy of the Armed Forces and Security.
