Kirchners Appeal Asset Seizure in Argentina

Buenos Aires, Dec 4 (NA) – Former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and her children, Máximo and Florencia, appealed on Thursday the decision of the Federal Oral Court 2 to proceed with the execution of twenty properties to comply with the forfeiture ordered in the Vialidad case for a total amount of 685 billion pesos.

On November 18, Judge Jorge Gorini had ordered the execution of the assets of the nine convicted individuals, jointly and severally, to cover the exact sum of 684,990,350,139.86 pesos.

The defense argued that all assets of Máximo and Florencia Kirchner have a 'lawful origin,' proven in final rulings, and were legally received from their parents.

The former leader's defense attorneys argued that these circumstances prevent the assets from being considered as instruments, products, or proceeds of the judged crime, and questioned the court's order to deprive the children of the former vice president of their assets, contrary to the court's own recently established criteria.

In turn, Máximo and Florencia Kirchner also challenged the execution of the 19 assets ceded by their mother, warning that it would imply a 'final dispossession of legitimately acquired assets.'

They requested that appraisals, registry registrations, and any act tending to place the assets under the administration of the Supreme Court or another entity be suspended.

As reported by the Argentine News Agency (Agencia Noticias Argentinas), the assets will pass to the orbit of the Supreme Court of Justice as part of the process to effect the forfeiture.

In her appeal, Cristina Fernández described the measure as 'a new expression of creative law,' which she claimed was used to persecute her and has now been extended to her children.
