The Oral Criminal Court No.7 of San Isidro confirmed the start of the trial for the death of Diego Armando Maradona for March 17, 2026, and the parties agreed on a list of 120 witnesses who will testify in the process.
The preliminary hearing began at 10:30 at the courts on Ituzaingó 340 street, where three of the victim's daughters—Dalma, Gianinna, and Jana—the representatives of the plaintiff, the prosecutors, and the lawyers of the accused attended.
According to sources familiar with the case, Francisco Oneto, one of the defenders of neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, raised the nullity of the debate, while Vadim Mischanchuk (defender of psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov) also presented a similar motion.
However, after a recess, judges Alberto Ortolani, Alberto Gaig, and Pablo Rolón dismissed the requests, and the parties debated the evidence.
In this context, all parties agreed that a total of 120 people (90 from the prosecution and 30 from the defense) will give testimonial statements throughout the oral and public trial for the alleged simple homicide with eventual intent of Maradona.
Furthermore, the hearings will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 to 17.
One of the sources consulted by NA stated: "It was recorded for the moment of the sentence. It will be a very difficult trial because the defenses will raise many issues to try to generate nullities".
The trial will begin on March 17, 2026, and will seek to determine the alleged responsibilities of Luque, Cosachov; the psychologist Carlos Díaz; the clinical doctor Pedro Di Spagna; the nurse Ricardo Almirón; his boss, Mariano Perroni, and Nancy Edith Forlini, the doctor from Swiss Medical who coordinated the home hospitalization of the former Boca and Barcelona player in Tigre, where he died on November 25, 2020.
