ATE Considers Early Strike Amid Threat of Argentine Civil Service Layoffs

The Association of State Workers (ATE) is evaluating advancing a National Strike due to the 'threat' of a new 10% cut to the state workforce, which President Javier Milei's administration aims to implement. This would represent approximately 28,000 layoffs, according to the union. The dismissals would primarily target decentralized state agencies, including the Anti-Corruption Office, INDEC, CONICET, and others. The strike, previously scheduled for November 27th, may be brought forward. Meanwhile, the union's general secretary, Rodolfo Aguiar, attacked Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation Federico Sturzenegger, calling him 'sinister' because he 'comes after the workers'.
