The municipality of Morón and the Federal Observatory of Security and Justice presented a bill on Tuesday to allow for the detention of aggressors in cases of disobedience in contexts of gender-based violence. According to the text of the proposal, accessed by the Argentine News Agency, the reform to the Criminal Procedure Code aims to "better protect women who suffer gender-based violence, especially when an aggressor repeatedly violates the restraining measures issued by the Justice system." Currently, the system cannot always act with speed because "disobedience" is a low-penalty crime, which leaves many women in a situation of risk, the authors of the proposal indicated, which also includes the Association of Judges of Morón. The modification to article 151 of the Buenos Aires provincial Penal Code "does not increase penalties or criminalize more conduct", but rather "allows the judge and prosecutor to detain the aggressor when he violates a court order in a context of violence." "Approaching, contacting, harassing, waiting for the victim at her home or work" are some of the examples that the law is intended to discourage.
