Argentine Government Considers Extraordinary Parliamentary Session

The Argentine Government is evaluating officially calling an extraordinary session before December 10, official sources informed the Noticias Argentinas news agency. Meanwhile, the secretary of the Chamber of Deputies, Adrián Pagán, has formally summoned elected legislators to a preparatory swearing-in session at the Congress on December 3. According to the document, seen by Noticias Argentinas, this session will take place on Wednesday, December 3, at 13:00 in the lower chamber. Days earlier, the 24 senators elected in October's elections will be sworn in during a preparatory session in the upper chamber on November 28 at 11:00, although they will take their seats on December 10, along with the deputies. At the same time, the Government is considering a potential split of the extraordinary session dates to tackle the main reforms and bills it aims to pass in the second half of its term in batches. Although the head of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, intends to extend the sessions into January, it is most likely that there will be a recess during that month and activity will resume from February 1 to 28.
