Governor Axel Kicillof has once again called for support to pass the 2026 Budget and a financing package. The debate on this issue is stalled in the Chamber of Deputies and requires a qualified majority, prompting urgent negotiations in the provincial legislature.
"It depends on how the participation of all sectors continues to advance," the governor responded when asked if the ruling coalition will be able to pass the key laws. He recalled that the debt chapter, the most sensitive point for the opposition, requires two-thirds to move forward: "We need two-thirds to approve the financing that has to do with the basic functioning of the Province of Buenos Aires," the governor stated in dialogue with NA.
The call comes after the Budget and the Tax Law received a favorable report, while the discussion on debt was postponed to next Tuesday. In this scenario, the opposition is demanding progress in negotiations for pending positions in the Provincial Supreme Court and a discretionary fund for mayors.
In this context, Kicillof sought to emphasize the operational impact that a delay in the approval of the three laws would have: "It is the largest province in Argentina, the one that spends the least per inhabitant, the one with the fewest public workers and employees per inhabitant in the entire country, with 17 million," he stated. And he stressed that "the Budget and basic instruments are strictly necessary to function."
The financial package includes a request for a debt of 3.865 billion dollars, of which 8% would be allocated to the Municipal Investment Strengthening Fund, one of the key points that mayors are closely following.
In parallel, the Budget project creates a National State Debt Recovery Fund for 900 billion pesos to channel judicial claims against the central government.
While dialogue with opposition blocs continues, the ruling coalition is also working to consolidate its own ranks.
