Argentina's Supreme Court Rejects Guillemet's Defense Appeal

In October 2024, the Court of Cassation ordered the suspension of all defense motions until Guillemet appears before the Justice. The Supreme Court has now confirmed that decision by rejecting the appeal, as the accused remains a fugitive. The Supreme Court of Justice rejected a motion filed by the defense of Gastón Guillemet, accused of human trafficking and considered one of the most wanted fugitives in the country, judicial sources reported today. As confirmed to the Argentine News Agency, the Ministry of Security maintains a reward of five million pesos for those who provide accurate information leading to his whereabouts. The prosecution appealed, and the Court of Cassation revoked the ruling, ordering a new trial. However, the accused did not appear at the scheduled hearing and has been declared a fugitive since October 2023, with a national and international arrest warrant. According to the accusation, he traveled to the Chaco town of Villa Berthet and convinced two teenagers, aged 14 and 17, and a 19-year-old young woman to travel to Buenos Aires with promises of work. Guillemet has been a fugitive since he was required to appear for a new trial ordered by the Federal Court of Criminal Cassation. The highest court, with the signatures of Horacio Rosatti, Carlos Rosenkrantz, and Ricardo Lorenzetti, dismissed a complaint through which the defense sought to have the criminal action extinguished in the second trial set by the Justice. Guillemet is accused of facts that occurred in December 2010. Once in the City, he sexually exploited them, taking advantage of their vulnerable situation. The Federal Oral Court 7 had sentenced him to three years in prison for two of the crimes, considering that he was unaware of the age of one of the victims, and acquitted him in the case involving the 14-year-old teenager.
