Argentina's Federal Chamber of Cassation has ruled to prosecute former President Alberto Fernández and others over insurance deals made during his term in office.


Former Argentine President Prosecuted in Insurance Contract Case

Buenos Aires, November 18 (NA) — The Federal Chamber of Criminal Cassation resolved today to prosecute former President Alberto Fernández in the case concerning the contracting of insurance during his administration.

According to information obtained by the Argentine News Agency (Agencia Noticias Argentinas), the resolution also extends to broker Héctor Martínez Sosay and his wife, María Cantero, who served as the former president's private secretary.

Additionally, Cassation has prosecuted Osvaldo Alfredo Tortora; Agustín Beraldi; Emanuel Raúl Andrés Calvo; and Andrés Severino. All are charged with incompatible negotiations in the exercise of public function, and in Cantero's case, also with the failure to fulfill the duties of a public official.

The court also confirmed the prosecutions and the bans on leaving the country for Alberto Carlos Pagliano, Gustavo Carlos García Argibay, Carlos Alberto Soria, Fernando Arana, and Mauro Damián Tanos. They are charged with incompatible negotiations in the exercise of public function and fraud against the public administration.
