The educational community of School 1, School District 17 "Dr. Antonio Dellepiane" (located at Baigorria 3169, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Villa del Parque) is on alert and mobilizing, demanding that Education Minister MarĂa de las Mercedes Miguel of Jorge Macri's government guarantee the opening of first grade for 2026.
During the public tenure act carried out between October 8 and 13, the Government of the City of Buenos Aires (GCBA) omitted to publish an interim position corresponding to the first grade of School 1, School District 17. "This omission is not a carelessness," they remark, "it is part of a maneuver that seeks to pave the way for the closure of first grade 2026, within the framework of the adjustment and educational emptying policy that is advancing throughout the city."
They also denounce that this year, by decision of the initial level and without a valid pedagogical reason, the five-year-old classroom was converted into a four-year-old classroom. "The consequence was immediate: 25 fewer vacancies and the perfect argument to justify a closure," they add.
"Today, in the face of the deliberate omission of the position in transfer, we redouble our commitment: we demand that the position be published in the admission instance and that the continuity of first grade 2026 be guaranteed. We remain in a state of alert and permanent mobilization, coordinating actions and traffic light stops with other schools in DE 17 and different districts, defending what belongs to the entire community: the public school, alive and with open classrooms," the educational community's final statement concludes.
From the Association of Teachers of Middle and Higher Education (Ademys), they express solidarity with the Dellepiane community and point out that this is a broader problem that is replicated throughout the City of Buenos Aires, as a result of the adjusting educational policies of Jorge Macri's government: "a few months ago, the educational communities of public schools in commune 11 and other jurisdictions in the city have been mobilized due to the impact that the decisions made by the Education portfolio are having, among others, the closure of initial level classrooms, primary school grades, and secondary school courses."
