Diego Santilli, who was once the main detractor of President Javier Milei, has been surprisingly appointed to a key government position. Santilli, who was third on the 'La Libertad Avanza' ticket, was moved to the top spot just 18 days before the elections following controversy over his predecessor, José Luis Espert. In the past, Milei publicly criticized Santilli, calling him a 'horrible candidate' and a 'product of political deals.' Currently, Santilli, a deputy and member of the PRO bloc, has aligned himself with the Casa Rosada government. After his surprising election win in Buenos Aires, Santilli will join Milei's cabinet to take on a central role in the next phase of the government: dialogue and relations with the nation's governors. Santilli began his political career in the Justicialist Party, linked to Peronism, and later became one of the founders of PRO alongside Mauricio Macri. He has previously held various public sector posts, including Vice Chief of Government of Buenos Aires, and was elected as a national deputy in 2021.
