Horacio Rodríguez Larreta expresses regret over his decision to appoint Jorge Macri as he questions the management of the latter, highlighting rising insecurity in Buenos Aires ahead of the upcoming elections.

Larreta Critiques Jorge Macri's Candidacy

The candidate for city legislator, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, regretted having called Jorge Macri during his tenure as head of Government, denying that the decision was influenced by his cousin, former president Mauricio Macri. 'They don’t work on what needs to be worked on,' said the legislative candidate.

The relationship between Rodríguez Larreta and Jorge Macri has deteriorated since the latter announced his candidacy for legislator outside of the PRO. Larreta began to question Macri's management by stating that the City of Buenos Aires is in worse condition than during his administration. 'So far fewer prisoners have escaped than in the last year of my administration,' compared the current head of Government.

In response, Jorge Macri’s team expressed displeasure with Larreta's criticisms, pointing out that many officials from Macri's administration are still part of the current city government. 'The city is dirtier, less secure... Bringing Jorge Macri from the suburbs, we are seeing the results on the street,' said Larreta.

In light of these statements, Jorge Macri defended his management and blamed Larreta for security problems, especially after the recent prisoner escapes in the City of Buenos Aires. 'I was wrong, I said it clearly,' admitted Larreta in a radio interview, amid the electoral campaign for the elections that will take place on May 18.

The candidate for legislator recalled that Mauricio Macri's support for his cousin came after his invitation, emphasizing that the decision was based on Jorge Macri's experience as mayor. 'One thing is to be Minister of Government, and another is to be Head of Government, where you have to work 24/7. It’s not the same to work from 6 to 9 (at night) than from 9 to 6. To the results I refer, it was a mistake,' concluded Larreta.
