Electoral Challenges in Buenos Aires

The City of Buenos Aires is preparing for a competitive election on May 18, with low anticipated citizen participation and several prominent candidates. The impact of the fragmentation of forces and the role of the president will be key.

Electoral Challenges in Buenos Aires

The political analyst and executive director of the consulting firm CEOP, Roberto Bacman, made statements about the electoral climate in the City of Buenos Aires ahead of the elections scheduled for May 18. Bacman pointed out that citizen participation and electoral interest are still not significant, stating that people are not yet in the mindset to vote. He observed that usually electoral interest activates in the week before the elections.

During an interview, the unusual political event in which the president participated in Villa Lugano was mentioned, interpreted as an indication of the importance the Government places on these local elections. This fact was deemed relevant in a year with multiple elections across the country. Regarding the electoral landscape in the City of Buenos Aires, Bacman warned that this election represents an unprecedented challenge for several political sectors.

The fragmentation of political forces such as La Libertad Avanza and Juntos por el Cambio in the City of Buenos Aires was discussed. Bacman mentioned that, while fragmentation could theoretically favor the Peronist candidate Leandro Santoro, the reality is more complex. He indicated that although this assumption has been partly confirmed, there are several factors that must be considered in this electoral scenario.

In the current context, figures like Manuel Adorni and Ramiro Marra compete within the libertarian space, while the PRO shows internal divisions between sectors close to Horacio Rodríguez Larreta and others aligned with Silvina Lospennato. For its part, radicalism backs its own candidate, Lula Levy. Emphasizing that an intense electoral schedule is approaching, Bacman concluded that the contest in the City of Buenos Aires will be one of the most competitive and followed in the electoral calendar.
