Tomorrow is the deadline for alliance registration in the City of Buenos Aires ahead of the local legislative elections. The separation of the Buenos Aires elections from the national calendar has led to a situation where various political spaces are working on forming the lists with prominent names to lead them.
In the case of the PRO, the head of government, Jorge Macri, has not managed to reach an agreement with the UCR, so the party will compete alone. Despite the impending deadline, there is a wide variety of names that could head the ticket, with María Eugenia Vidal being the most well-positioned figure, although she does not seem willing to step down to compete for a place in the Buenos Aires Parliament.
In the PRO, other strong names are being considered, such as the Minister of Health, Fernán Quirós, spokesperson Laura Alonso, former Minister of Security, Waldo Wolff, and the Minister of Economic Development, Hernán Lombardi. Jorge Macri seeks to populate the list with recognized figures from the party to regain the historical identity of the PRO.
On the other hand, the Buenos Aires PJ and its progressive allies have defined that national deputy Leandro Santoro will lead the list of Buenos Aires legislators. Santoro has the support of La Cámpora and Juan Manuel Olmos. Another player in the game is former Chief of Staff Juan Manuel Abal Medina, who threatens to compete outside the Peronist alliance if he is not given space for leaders from his faction.
Meanwhile, La Libertad Avanza has not yet defined who will head its ticket. While Manuel Adorni is promoted by sectors linked to the national government, Ramiro Marrano seems to be the choice after his expulsion from the party.
Regarding the UCR, they have gained the support of the Buenos Aires socialism and possibly Martín Lousteau will head the list. Confianza Pública, Graciela Ocaña's party, would join the coalition, and the Civic Coalition led by Elisa Carrió will compete separately, with Paula Oliveto Lago at the head of the ticket.
Another news is the participation in the contest of former Buenos Aires head of government Horacio Rodríguez Larreta with his Movimiento al Desarrollo. Rodríguez Larreta will compete independently, distanced from the PRO. At the same time, the Left Front is considering the possibility of Vanina Biasi leading its list, although the ratification from the PTS is still pending.
