Cryptocurrency Scandal in the Presidency

Recent revelations about connections between Mauricio Novelli and Milei's government have generated concern in Argentina's political and financial spheres. The situation is complicated by dismissals and potential legal actions.

Cryptocurrency Scandal in the Presidency

Recent revelations have highlighted the connections between Mauricio Novelli and others close to the Presidency, who facilitated the arrival of Hayden Davis, the creator of the failed token $LIBRA. This web of relationships unfolds in a context of negotiations that have raised concerns in the political environment.

Karina Milei, the Secretary General of the Presidency, has been the key figure in the negotiations that led to the signing of a 'letter of intent' with the Cube Exchange platform in mid-October. A month later, Milei reviewed the draft of a 'partnership agreement' with Hayden Mark Davis, the businessman behind the cryptocurrency.

Elisa Carrió brought the matter to Justice, even referring to the presidential secretary as a 'cashier.' From La Rosada, there is hope that the judicial issue will be resolved in 'one or two months.' Since the outbreak of the scandal, several involved have chosen to shut off their phones, increasing uncertainty about the future of these negotiations.

Sources close to the President assert that he found himself at the center of a strong debate related to the realm of cryptocurrencies, following his participation in the renowned Tech Forum event, where businessman Mauricio Novelli emerged as a key promoter of the $Libra project. This incident took place last October, when at least two officials expressed their reservations about the advisability of Milei attending an event with relatively unknown figures and unclear backgrounds, like Novelli and other speakers on the agenda.

'Javier, by his grateful nature and previous relationship with Novelli, decided to attend,' explained a leader, emphasizing how the President manages his personal agenda and his frequent phone communication. The same source pointed to Karina Milei as a recurring target in this situation: 'She was always responsible for collecting the talks, which explains why she is being singled out.'

In this context, the confusion between personal and public life became problematic, something the President failed to clarify in his defense after the scandal, which could further complicate the situation for the Milei brothers.

This responsibility was attributed to her closeness with Novelli, Terrones Godoy, and Sergio Morales, who played supportive roles in the process. Milei took on the final review of both documents before their presentation to the President for signature. On the other hand, Terrones Godoy attended key meetings, but with less prominent participation compared to Novelli.

Additionally, Ariel Parkinson, COO of Tech Forum, has been identified as an important link in this web, although his fear of a potential court summons has led him to maintain a low profile. Initial discussions were held exclusively with her, and only later was the President involved, indicating a significant level of trust in her management.

Access records to the Casa Rosada and Quinta de Olivos reveal a notable discrepancy in the interactions of Novelli and Terrones Godoy with power. Novelli entered the Government House ten times during 2024, while Terrones Godoy had only two visits, both in Novelli's company. This suggests a closer relationship between Novelli and Milei, while Terrones Godoy seems to act more as a secondary collaborator.

Regarding visits, Novelli was seen in the company of Davis and other businessmen, highlighting his active role in promoting the cryptocurrency. Parkinson, along with Novelli and Terrones Godoy, has attempted to promote Tech Forum as an innovative event, participating in interviews with media and maintaining constant communication with the Casa Rosada.

An internal source indicated that 'Karina, Manuel, and Sergio formed a cohesive team, while Ariel acted as a link, but now he is very worried,' as reported by La Nación. However, the news has been adverse, and after a series of raids, the Government made the decision to dismiss Sergio Morales, who served as an advisor at the CNV and was a partner of Novelli.
