New Investigative Commission on Libra Cryptocurrency

This Wednesday, a special session is expected in the Chamber of Deputies to address the case of the cryptocurrency Libra. A group of legislators, led by Pablo Juliano and Miguel Pichetto, have requested the meeting, which will be joined by the block of the Integration and Development Movement (MID), led by Oscar Zago.

Among the legislators from MID who have presented a project to establish the "Bicameral Special Investigative Commission on the Libra case" are Zago, Eduardo Falcone, and María Cecilia Ibáñez. The proposal arises amid public tensions with Martín Menem and Karina Milei, the general secretary of the presidency. The commission proposed by Zago would be composed of 16 members, with equitable representation of deputies and senators.

Ten resolution projects from different blocs have been presented with the aim of investigating how influential individuals may have influenced the president repeatedly, resulting in mistakes that need to be corrected. The proposed commission would have a maximum period of 180 days to conduct its investigations, including the possibility of requesting reports, search warrants, and witness statements.

The agenda for the session will include the creation of the Investigative Commission regarding the actions of President Milei, as well as requests for reports to the Executive Power and multiple interpellations of government officials. The presence of at least 129 deputies will be required to reach the quorum necessary for the session.
