Tensions Rise Between Government Officials in Buenos Aires

The Chief of Cabinet, Jorge Macri, expressed his discontent with the posture of the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, regarding the prisoners in the City of Buenos Aires, suggesting that Bullrich might not belong to the PRO due to her closeness to La Libertad Avanza, ahead of the 2025 elections. Macri questioned Bullrich's loyalty to the party led by Mauricio Macri and suggested that during election time, it is crucial to know which candidates will be supported.

In the midst of a tense exchange, Bullrich had accused Macri of using the dispute between the City and the Nation over prisoners for electoral purposes, to which Macri responded that the issue is delicate and that it is necessary to find solutions without partisan goals. Regarding the legislative elections, Macri mentioned the possibility that Mauricio Macri might be a candidate in October and opened the door to compete internally with Horacio Rodríguez Larreta within the PRO.

Regarding the possibility of an agreement with La Libertad Avanza to face Governor Axel Kicillof in the province of Buenos Aires, Macri stated that it is necessary to unite forces to counteract Kirchnerism. He emphasized that the goal is to prevent Kicillof from remaining in power and that the election is crucial to contain the ruling party.

Regarding the detention of criminals in the City, Macri defended his administration by pointing out a 35% increase in arrests and emphasized that those charged must be transferred to the federal penitentiary system to alleviate the situation in the police stations. He criticized the lack of solutions with Bullrich and highlighted the importance of separating security management from electoral disputes to effectively address the problems in the penitentiary system.
